MOREZF pursued a precrash sensing project with PreAct that could reliably predict an imminent collision, using a low-cost sensor. NHTSA and other road safety agencies have determined that the vast majority of injuries and deaths can be prevented if an imminent collision can be reliably detected only milliseconds prior to impact. PreAct and ZF agreed to collaborate on a precrash system design and testing and have so far achieved excellent results using PreAct’s novel sensors and edge processing combined with ZF’s ADAS system design and manufacturing expertise. We will discuss the results of POCs, simulation, and ongoing real-world prototype testing. NHTSA has shown that imminent collision detection can greatly reduce injuries and deaths. Until now, it has proven elusive to automakers.
Reliable and inexpensive precrash sensing and detection have long been sought by the auto industry and finally, it is possible.
