An overview of content and participating host/speakers.
ZF pursued a precrash sensing project with PreAct that could reliably predict an imminent collision, using a low-cost sensor. NHTSA and other road safety agencies have determined that the vast majority of injuries and deaths can be prevented if an imminent collision can be reliably detected only milliseconds prior to impact. PreAct and ZF agreed to collaborate on a precrash system design and testing and have so far achieved excellent results using PreAct’s novel sensors and edge processing combined with ZF’s ADAS system design and manufacturing expertise. We will discuss the results of POCs, simulation, and ongoing real-world prototype testing. NHTSA has shown that imminent collision detection can greatly reduce injuries and deaths. Until now, it has proven elusive to automakers.
Reliable and inexpensive precrash sensing and detection have long been sought by the auto industry and finally, it is possible.
Learnings gained: We will be showing how we have proven that precrash/imminent collision detection with certainty is possible and that it can lead to a reduction in injuries from crashes. Also, that advanced nearfield sensing can enable many new use cases for automakers.

This session is associated with a pilot project that has been developed throughout our most recent STARTUP AUTOBAHN program. The comprehensive overview of this collaboration can be found below.
Despite advances in traffic safety technology, road accidents cause severe human and economic losses every year. According to Together for Safer Roads , the annual cost of car accidents worldwide is around $518 billion, which is equivalent to roughly 1-2% of each country’s GDP. The primary goal on the road to Vision Zero is to avoid accidents. At the same time, every effort must be made to mitigate the consequences of crashes that cannot be avoided. ZF and PreAct are collaborating on crash mitigation and will jointly develop technologies for this purpose.
Project Teasers can be accessed and downloaded on the respective program startup profiles with which our STARTUP AUTOBAHN partners teamed up with.
For this POC the following startup has been involved:
