Teaching Cars to See and Understand Human Behavior in Real Time – Motherson & Gestoos

This session will give insights in AI, Human activity monitoring and In-cabin Monitoring

This Session is Over

EXPO 10 has come and gone, but don’t you worry, the content is forever.

In fact, we are even adding new features and updated materials to our website on a regular basis, so check out the recording of this session below or head over to our rearview page, where you do have the chance to re-watch nearly the entire EXPO 10.

An overview of content and participating host/speakers.

Especially relevant for OEM´s and Tier one executives in charge of ADAS, AV and HMI.

Motherson and Gestoos are going to show a breakthrough on how OEMs can easily and efficiently enable vehicles to understand human movements & behavior in real-time.

Gestoos brings its expertise in machine vision. Gestoos and Motherson worked on the safety-related use case of child presence detection using a vision system. The use case idea is validated for early-stage R&D using Gestoos’ Creator annotation and model generation platform utilizing a limited number of test sequences and without the user needing any in-depth knowledge of computer vision or AI.

We are at a stage in the computer vision evolution, where technology can understand our everyday gestures, body expressions, and general movement. Why is this something we should care about? Because, we can get to a point with this technology, that it will have a major impact on reducing the number of accidents in future and saving lives.

Gestoos has built a state-of-the-art technology that sees and understands any human behavior in cars and in spaces. The solution can identify any activity or anomaly, and enables categorization of these activities/anomalies to increase safety. It provides a dedicated snapshot of what is happening inside the cabin; including before, during, and after unusual events. Gestoos redefines how cars and vehicles can assist and support any human-to-machine interaction as well as monitor any activity or behavior. See part of the technology in action here https://vimeo.com/333984763

Motherson utilizes sophisticated machine vision solutions and integrates them into various products, which are highly relevant to provide safety as well as comfort functions with the next generation of HMI interactions.

**What learnings or insights will the participants take away from the session? **

We will learn about developing in-cabin activity models, leveraging pre-existing AI backbone models, and building a real-time learning system that works at the edge. Integral to this is the Gestoos Creator platform which helps to overcome the many challenges often faced. Gestoos Creator is an authoring tool that allows customers to train their own AI models, customize interactions, and build robust computer vision detection systems with no prior knowledge and low data requirements.

Project Teaser

This session is associated with a pilot project that has been developed throughout our most recent STARTUP AUTOBAHN program. The comprehensive overview of this collaboration can be found below.

AI-based platform for the training of human activity detection and interaction models using computer vision systems

As the automotive industry shifts towards an increasingly automated future, safety features like occupant monitoring become more important. Besides the traditional detection of driver fatigue and occupant capacity, there are many other important safety and convenience use cases relating to activity monitoring and spatial interaction.

Project Teasers can be accessed and downloaded on the respective program startup profiles with which our STARTUP AUTOBAHN partners teamed up with.
For this POC the following startup has been involved:
